Frequently asked questions (FAQ)

Is NEOSTRATA® good for acne and acne scarring?

Research shows that NEOSTRATA®’s AHAs refine and soften the skin and remove dead skin cells while keeping the new skin underneath healthy. AHAs help improve a number of skin conditions, including acne, oily skin, hyperkeratosis, and psoriasis. It also helps to improve the appearance of acne scarring.

Are there side effects?

Most patients can undergo glycolic peeling without any side effects. The treated skin is virtually normal in appearance. Although rare, a patient may experience mild sloughing of skin producing some weeping or scabbing. Some redness is temporary and normal. Any of these side effects may be covered with make-up.

Rarely, and only if scabs are picked, scarring may occur. Areas of hypopigmentation (lighter coloured skin) or hyperpigmentation (darker coloured skin) may result from a peel, but this is very unusual.

After how many peels will I notice an improvement?

Results are visible from the first session. After 3-5 sessions, wrinkles appear reduced, pigment spots diminished and pores tightened to visibly rejuvenate the skin.

When should you start using NEOSTRATA® peel treatments?

Peels suit everyone (men and women but NOT pregnant women) who want to maintain clear, healthy-looking skin. In younger clients, it is effective on acne and acne scarring. It is also particularly recommended for treating wrinkles, loss of skin elasticity, dull skin, hyperpigmentation, and skin imperfections.

Is the treatment safe?

Neostrata is a superficial, controlled, professional peel used by trained professionals. It is a deeper peel than you could achieve at home as the chemicals used are more intense.

Is it painful?

Peels are not painful, but you can expect a warm sensation during the acid solution’s action on the skin. The acid solution is removed after a set time and soothing creams and serums are applied.

Will I have any redness or peeling?

Depending on your skin type and the intensity of the peel, you may experience some redness, temporary dryness or superficial peeling/flaking. These symptoms are normal – they will diminish progressively and should disappear completely within 3 days.

Can I combine peeling with other treatments?

Yes – peeling can be done alone but will also work well in combination with other aesthetic treatments such as fillers or Botox anti-wrinkle treatment. Your Aesthetic Nurse can recommend the best combination of treatments for your skin type and personal requirements.

Are there any precautions to take before a treatment?

Yes. Anyone who uses a skin product containing Retinol should NOT use this product within a week of having a NeoStrata treatment. NeoStrata peels are not recommended for pregnant women.
